Pig Hunter – The Taste of Bali in North Jakarta

Hi there Nommerz! Last post we talk about the comfort food for Indonesian in general, but this time we will bring you to Bali’s speciality food – Babi Guling that is reachable through little distance! There are a lot of restaurants in Jakarta that serve Babi Guling right now. However not to long ago, Momon’s friend suggested us to try Pig Hunter.

Pig Hunter Entrance

Pig Hunter itself is located in the north side of Jakarta, specifically in Sunter area. If you have a trouble looking for this place, you can search for ACE Hardware first then you will definitely see the Pig Hunter sign.

When we first walk in there, we remembered the pig houses in the movie called three little pig. The restaurant is surrounded with a selection of rustic and wooden furniture which gives a warm and accommodating feeling as if you are inside a barn. The place is not really crowded because we came not during lunch or dinner hour. ps: oh hey! peace to the photobombing waitress.
We immediately ask the favourite menu that people often order to the waitress. She told us that almost every table order both Nasi Babi Guling and American Pork Ribs. Without any hesitation, we immediately agreed on ordering both of the favourite menu and adding extra portion of french fries, because fries is life!! Who’s with us? By the way, we are allowed to choose the sauce for the ribs, but they said the Barbecue sauce is their best seller.
The Best Seller – Nasi Babi Guling
There’s almost no waiting time for the Nasi Babi Guling because we think it is always ready. When it arrived we are so pleased about the amount of the types of condiments inside the plate. A portion of Nasi Babi Guling (Rp. 40K) consists of rice, fried pork bits, shredded chilli chicken, fried pork belly (with little fat), long beans, peanuts, pork crackers and sambal matah. Although the condiments are different compare to those Nasi Babi Guling in Bali, we must say their portion is worth the price! Flavour wise, we did not expect it to be that great at first. However after tasting, every of the condiments are cooked perfectly not too spicy, not too bland, not too oily and not too dry. We also ask for more sambal matah because it makes the pork even tastier.
French Fries
We must also say their French Fries (Rp. 20K) is also great. Because it is deep fried nicely and we did not wait too long for it to come. Same like the Nasi Babi Guling, the portion and the taste were worth the price. If you visit Pig Hunter make sure to try dipping their french fries to the sambal matah!!
American Pork Ribs – Barbercue
The American Pork Ribs (Rp. 90K) came after we almost finish eating the Nasi Babi Guling. Since the Nasi Babi Guling exceded our expectation, we also expect their ribs to be bomb. Too bad it was nothing near to the Nasi Babi Guling 😦 After waiting for 20-30mins, the ribs came out with messy plating, soggy consistency and the barbecue sauce is not yet absorbed by the meat. Maybe they did not prep the meat with the sauce first before grilling, we don’t even think they grill it enough.
All in all, we would highly recommend you Nommerz to try their Nasi Babi Guling if you are craving for a Balinese food in Jakarta. Everything about the Nasi Babi  Guling is Great! Do let us know if you have different opinion about the pork ribs if you decided to try them 😀
